While updating my resume, it occurred to me that the job I may be best suited for is Governess. Not a nanny, a twittering teenager from England or Scandinavia who takes care of (after a fashion) some Charlestonian or Cantabrigian half-domesticated beasts.

A governess. Someone who, due to whatever twists of fate is decently educated in the arts, but has no family fortune, no benefactors and very little prospect of marriage to help her out. Someone who'd move into your manorhouse and teach your little ladies (or lordings, as we're talking equal rights towards equal education) to speak French, embroider, dance, play the piano, draw...

Does anyone even hire out for governesses anymore? What would Jane Eyre do in this day and age?

If I ever make my fortune and move into a country estate, I'll check on your availability - I'm sold...

Gotta have kids first, unless you want to learn to embroider, yourself. There's not a lot for me to offer aside from that.
