No more doughnuts?

Michael Vale, best known for playing Fred the Baker in the Dunkin Donuts ads, passed away recently at age 83.

Is funny to still hear people today repeat the old catch phrase "time to make the doughnuts," though Fred the Baker'd retired years ago. Such is the effect of a particularly good ad campaign.

I do remember those ads... but I think I remember the SNL skit that John Lovitz did when he retired... which was the filming of the last commercial he did with out takes and the guy's breakdown... was hilarious.

Oh...I don't remember that. I don't think I was watching the show at that time.

We used to make fun of the doughnut guy until someone pointed out that he was laughing all the way to the bank. When he retired, we were amazed at how we sort of missed him. The current ads aren't nearly as good as those were.

I remember it. It was on tv when I was much younger. My sister and I still say it, like when we're having lunch and have to get back to work. Time to make the doughnuts.

Snort...so much more subtle than "WHERE'S THE BEEF?", isn't it?

"Where's the beef," was awful. There's nothing funny about the unhappy customer.
