Lots going on right now, so am sorry for the twitter like posts. Am working a conference for some friends at a big school to the south of heah - often half days or more (on a 24 hour schedule). It's good work, and I enjoy the folks there. Don't think I could do it long term, as tempting as it may seem at the moment.

Have a lot of knitting

and inneresting reading going on. Also am trying to figure out the future, as it always seems to be dogging me.

Am tired, very tired, but very happy in the change of pace.

Busy Day.

I'd arranged for some part-time temporary work at a local school. Turns out that they want me full-time for at least this week. Though I like them well enough, I'm not keen on working anywhere full time right now*.

As my grades were so surprisingly stellar**, I decided to treat myself to the sequel to the Western Civilization course I took last semester. Enjoyed it immensely and, well, I'm a sucker for a good potboiler. Since this all but depletes the History offerings at the school, I'm thinking maybe of an Economics course as well. We'll see.

Anyway, the registration has to be accomplished before work. Work's all day after that and it promises to be hectic. Need to fit in haggling with Commonwealth effing Care and my alma mater. Also need to get a couple doctor appointments arranged.

It'll all get done. I'll be fine. Just am a little cranky at leaving the house right now.

*No, I'm not independently wealthy. My ability to take time off, take classes and get my life straightened out comes from the fact that, while everyone else around me seemed to be buying Priuses, iPhones, flat-screen TVs and adjustable-rate mortgages, I was paying off my credit card and student loans, searching for a cheaper place to live and saving money. It took time, and, unfortunately, a job that I didn't much care for that paid well. But, well, life's sometimes about delayed gratification. Am not into job-hopping, as I was never raised to believe in that elusive to the point of being almost non-existent "perfect fit" in the work world. How could there ever be with my background?

**An A- for one class: Not bad, considering I got a pretty awful grade on one assignment when the whole thing with my brother went down> Must have aced the exam. Will ask the professor if I can see it. I had this really odd feeling I'd never experienced before that I did incredibly well. The other class, the one I was worried about, was a straight A. Maybe good grades shouldn't come as such a surprise for me, as it seems that whenever I actually do the work, I end up with almost perfect scores. Funny how that works.

Free at Last.

The box was packed first thing (the drawings, posters, photos...everything that I used to help forget that I was in a sort of fattening pen...were taken down days ago), then came the emails. Of course there were snags. Of course I was going to be ridden to the bitter end.

DID get a chance to have lunch with a coworker (now a friend) whose last day was today as well.

When five hit, I finished up my last minute notes to the Powers That Be, called a cab, and picked up my stuff. Called out one last "Good Bye Finance!*" and was answered with a resounding "Good Luck, Bev!"

Alone, safe at home, I'm still grinning like a fool.

* My big thing after they moved me to the cube farm was, Monday mornings, to climb onto my desk, stretch out my arms and call out "Good Morning, Finance!" In the beginning, most folks would ignore me and some would groan. After a while, an awful lot would holler back, "Happy Monday, Bev!" or "Good Morning!" That was one of my highlights of the week.

Had my exit interview today, for what it was worth. Did allow myself to speak my mind, though I doubt this will leave the interviewer's notebook.

Felt pretty good, though.

Posted From Home.

Can you all tell that I really don't want to go into work today?

Tuesday, June 10, 2008

Cambridge just informed us that, due to excessive power consumption, we'll be having rolling blackouts throughout the course of the day.

Feels a little bit like a bureaucratic Day of the Jackal or something.

Wednesday, June 04, 2008

It's been somewhat of a hectic day today as we've been preparing a project for some auditors.

Nothing really exciting, but pleasant enough (and that's a rarity at my job). It's made the day go by fairly quickly and I'm always when that happens.

Hmm, not feeling myself today. I could really use a few days off from work. I think I'm burning out again.

Oh, the Irony.

I don't normally write about work for obvious reasons (much less write about work from work), but:

...RRRRRRRRWHOOSH...(rumble rumble rumble) go the F-16s on their Opening Day flyover. Some folks applaud, others yell "play ball!"

Out of the corner office I hear, "That's wrong."

"Why? What's wrong?" asks the admin, sort of hurt-sounding like a child who just learned that Santa Claus doesn't exist.

"Because it's such a waste of taxpayer money."

Pardon me, but we are the absolute last ones who should be complaining about wasting taxpayer money.

Back to work.

Every day's a bit like this, but somehow Monday's always the worst.
