Turd Purrguson.

So, I was sitting here knitting away, minding my own business, when I heard first hissing, then The Charge of the Light Brigade, followed by a loud *crash.* Turned around and saw that, during their wrestling match, the black and gray angels ripped the curtains down from the front window.
Not just the curtains, mind you, but the rod and the fixtures, too. Now, if this had happened in the back of the house, would have left repairs until the morning. As it was in the front and we face the now glass enclosed hospital emergency waiting area, figured I'd jury rig something so that we'd not be offering up an all night peep show.
While I was doing my split on the cat tree and sofa back, trying to get the curtain rod to balance without the fixture, felt two sets of eyes on me: Black Cat's baleful glare and the Gray Boy's Turd Purrguson look. I call it the Turd Purrguson look, because the only other creature I've ever seen do as good an impression of Burt Reynolds in the Cannonball Run aside from my cat is Norm MacDonald. It's more than a little bit unsettling.
By the way: I can't believe this sketch is nearly 20 years old; as many times as I've seen it, never ceases to amuse. Interesting, too, is that it's one of the rare scenes where Will Ferrell plays the Straight Man.

A Grasshopper walks into a bar

grabs a stool and orders a drink.

The bartender asks, "hey, did you know they named a drink after you?"

"They named a drink Fred?"

***

This only resembles a classic Grasshopper in that it's Green and Creamy.  (Wonderfully Creamy.)
I was trying to use up a perfectly ripe avocado, and had some leftover melon from the other day.

For two servings:

1 avocado
1 c. coconut water
1/2 c. thawed frozen Persian melon
a good grating of fresh ginger
a squeeze of lime juice
seltzer water
crushed ice
cinnamon (optional, though it makes a pretty garnish.  Also adds an earthy, almost chocolatey perfume to the ensemble)

Blend the peeled, destoned avocado with coconut, ginger, lime juice and melon until smooth.
Fill two highball glasses 1/4 full of crushed ice, divide the avocado mixture between the glasses.  Stir to mix, then top off with seltzer and cinnamon garnish.

Very smooth and not too sweet.  Green's my favorite color.

Blogworthy.

My dad rocks. Is all I can say. I'm here grieving about all sorts of stuff, including the end of my school's hockey season. Mention that, well, if anything, at least the President's college basketball stats are good. His reply? "probably more important than the expansion of Obamacare to Libya."

(Takes a deep breath, dives.)

Sesame Street, Math Help, Helpful Bugs.

What more could one ask for this Summer?

Words, maybe:

One two three
Four five six
Seven eight nine
Ten eleven twelve
Ladybugs
Came to the ladybugs' picnic

One two three
Four five six
Seven eight nine
Ten eleven twelve
And they all played games
At the ladybugs' picnic

They had twelve sacks so they ran sack races
They fell on their backs and they fell on their faces
The ladybugs 12
At the ladybugs' picnic

They played jump rope but the rope it broke
So they just sat around telling knock-knock jokes
The ladybugs 12
At the ladybugs' picnic

One two three
Four five six
Seven eight nine
Ten eleven twelve
And they chatted away
At the ladybugs' picnic

They talked about the high price of furniture and rugs
And fire insurance for ladybugs
The ladybugs 12
At the ladybugs' picnic
12!

Afternoon Feeding.

A male housefinch feeding a baby. It's a pity my camera doesn't have sound; the babies' squeaks are so incredibly high-pitched and loud that, really, only hearing is believing. Also, note the little one flapping just one wing: it knows full well how to feed itself, but if it can scam a free meal, it will.
Oh Dear.

Don't know if I should be laughing or be crouched in a corner rocking myself calm after this.

Okay, this is really cute.

(Thanks, Pavel!)

Happy Earth Day.

Should go without saying, but will repeat it anyway: NSFW.

(21st anniversary of Gaia busting my nose, too, by the way.)

Funny how predictable the thugs are, in spite of what Conventional Wisdom says about their nature.

Bless Peter Graves

For some of the funniest self-perpetuating one-liners ever. (May he rest in peace.)

(For those of you who loved him earlier than the above, one of my favorite versions of the theme from "Mission Impossible:")

Have been feeling like garbage all day. I think and hope that it's just the old gut (I have IBS - sorry for the TMI) just stamping its feet and letting itself be known. If it's anything worse, I'm screwed, as I'm not insured.

Animal, Vegetable or Mineral?

(Not a mineral, which really narrows things down a bit, doesn't it.)

Cash is out, stocks are out. Commodities are in.

Black Gold.

Mentioned to Pavel that this looked like some sort of remake of a scene from Stroheim's Greed. He was all like, "been thinking that all day, myself." Cosmic.

At least, that's what Pavel's telling me (and he ought to know).

Actually, Job Lots had a sale on sunflower seed a couple weeks ago: $19 for a 50 lb bag. Loaded up as much of it as poor Speed Racer could handle (five bags) and ground home. Found that, since Trouble has a territory marking problem, we'd need something more sturdy than paper bags to hold the stuff. Cheap trash bins from Home Depot seem to have done the trick.

At the rate we use this stuff, 250 lbs should last until the end of February.

Sacre Floof!

Looks like we've got a yew ful of house sparrow fledglings, complete with downy chests, pink beaks, and insatiable appetites. Wow.

Who could ever forget that laugh?

One of my favorite movies as a kid; must have seen it like a dozen times.

Rest in Peace, Dom DeLuise.
