After returning from Maine last night, we decided to go to Anna's in Davis Square for a bit of something decent for dinner. Were witnesses to a conversation about dress styles: what the two looked good in, what they looked fat in, where they got their fashion sense from, etc. Really involved discussion. Now, this is the typical thing you'd hear from a couple of the more shallow undergrad girls. What made this unusual, I guess, is that these were guys.
Got to thinking about dandies, about fashion before the first French revolution, etc. Was wondering about us (meaning our society, etc) if our young men were so deeply, emotionally invested in their dress styles like I'd read that men were at the fall of the French monarchy in 1789. Granted, these were just two guys in a cantina and, as you all know, if I can't make it or get it at the salvation army, I don't wear it...but still.
